BULLETIN: April UPDATE
Update on regulations project: The Board regulations are in the final vetting stages and will soon be republished for a final round of public comments. They will then be sent to the Legislative AELR Committee for final approval. It is anticipated adoption may occur in late spring/early summer. When finally adopted, the Board will promulgate a copy of the new regulations with an accompanying syllabus of changes. Inappropriate advertising persists as a disciplinary problem: Notwithstanding numerous educational initiatives delivered in the newsletters, website and at various conferences, many licensees persist in publishing false and/or misleading advertisements. Remember, under COMAR 10.43.03.03, advertising may NOT mislead, misrepresent, make false representations of cure, falsely mislead based on partial disclosure or contain representations regarding use of unapproved or unauthorized devices or practices. BE ADVISED THAT THE BOARD WILL SANCTION LICENSEES FOR VIOLATIONS OF THESE REGULATIONS. C.A. Make-up examination to be announced: C.A. applicants who fail or miss the April 24th examination may be eligible for a make-up examination to be held this summer. The exact date, place and time of a makeup will be announced in the next several weeks and will depend upon the number of applicants in need of a make-up examination. Board makes Jurisprudence presentations at two CEU Seminars: The Board staff delivered 1-hour jurisdiction presentations to the MCA and to Dr. Keith Scott’s Risk Management Seminar in March. The presentations were made to over 350 attendees and were very well received with numerous questions and comments. Providing Services to AIDS/HIV Patients: Please note that, pursuant to H.O. Article, Section 313(24) licensees may not discriminate against an individual with HIV/AIDS. Healthcare services must be provided upon request to all patients regardless of status. Failure to provide services may result in action against the license of the practitioner.
